Headteacher's Welcome
On behalf of the Governors, staff, pupils and myself it gives me great pleasure, as Headteacher, to welcome you to The Duke of Bedford Primary School website.
We are a welcoming village primary school in Thorney near Peterborough and our vision to inspire a love of learning is at the heart of everything that we do. Our curriculum is both exciting and challenging, leading our children on their personal route to success. Positive relationships with our parents, wider family and community are important to us and these partnerships support the children to enjoy and thrive while on their school journey.
When visitors walk around our school they comment on cheerful and polite children engaged in their learning in a calm, fun environment. We take great pride in the fact that we have a happy, inclusive school in which the children’s voice is clearly heard in an atmosphere that models and encourages respect for all and for the environment.
Excellent academic achievement is very important, alongside this we also support children to become balanced individuals who are confident in who they are and what they do. Positive wellbeing is key to success and the opportunities to take on responsibilities within school help our children to feel a sense of belonging, enabling them to be confident that their contribution to the wider school community is valued and has a positive impact for the school community and beyond.
I feel privileged to lead a team of professional, talented and committed staff who provide well planned and organised lessons and activities in a carefully sequenced curriculum from our Pre-school through to Year 6. A wide range of enrichment activities are also provided to enhance our children's learning and support them to develop further existing and new talents and skills. We have a supportive and hard working group of governors who are highly skilled in different areas. Governors and staff work together to provide our children with the very best learning experiences. We encourage our pupils to be responsible, independent and confident individuals with a lifelong love of learning.
Do come and see us at the school or contact us for further information if you would like to know more. We look forward to welcoming you to the Duke of Bedford Primary School.
